Made in America
A builder in Montana is creating a new home using 100% of products made in the USA. What a great concept! From nails to lights, Anders Lewendal, an economist turned builder, has developed a plan he hopes will revitalize the housing industry and help the country’s economy.
One of his goals is to get builders to increase their consumption of American-made products in the construction industry by a modest 5%; in turn this would create an additional 200,000 jobs according to his calculations.
Buy local is a theme that resounds from the grocery store to the small shopping centers that dot our landscape. Maybe the housing industry can play this out and make an even greater positive impact on the national economy.
Great ideas do start somewhere.

New Homes Getting Crowded at the Closing Table
Just imagine that if everyone that benefitted from every new home closing was at settlement. Not only would there be an attorney and purchasers, agents and lenders but a whole slew of people in your community.
According to economists at the National Association of Home Builders, the one-year estimated local impacts of building 100 single-family homes in a typical metro area include $21.1 million in local income, $2.2 million in taxes and other local government revenue and 324 local jobs!
So let’s invite the grader, the framer, the electrician, plumber and painter to attend Or how about the elementary teacher, the soccer coach, the cafeteria workers along with the school supply store staff. Don’t forget the trash collector, the carpet salesmen, the car salesmen and the mechanic too! In order for local businesses to thrive they need to serve residents and new homeowners generate new business opportunities.
Economic activity on this scale is not generated by many facets of America. It’s time to understand that the new home industry is truly a foundation not only for a family’s future but for the future of our country.
